How to take Long Exposure Photos

The most exciting photography type is long-exposure photos and as far as I am free and have time I try to go out late evenings and try to take long-exposure photos. I also learned long-exposure photography after buying my first DSLR camera but I recognized also I can do that simply with my smartphone too.

Firstly, if using DSLR or mirrorless camera you will need some equipment; you need to use a tripod to stabilize the camera when movement happens because the shutter speed will be in seconds, and need to wait in the same position. Also, another tip is you can use a timer because when clicking the button on the camera our hand gives some shake to the camera at first. For the settings of camera, you can arrange depending on the mood that you use. If I use [Av] mode I set up iso generally 100 and aperture between 13-22 but it changes depending on the darkness or what kind of photo I want. After setting up the camera automatically find the shutter speed. However, if I use [M] manual mode I also need to arrange shutter speed too. It changes depending on how many seconds I want to take that image. Long-exposure photo is also good for a sea view, waterfalls and sky view as well. You can use an ND filter which gives some more darkness to the lens with that filter.

If you don’t have a professional camera you can take that kind of image by using your smartphone as well. If you use iPhone probably you recognized you can take live images and if you take an image steady when movement occurs after that check photo and scroll down the photo you will see some features there and you quickly choose long exposure and the photo is ready.

I use a Samsung phone and I can choose more than pro options. I can manage all manual settings on my phone and when choose that setting and take photos steadily it gives me long exposure photos too. Other phones are similar and if you try pro features on the phone with setting Iso, Shutter speed, and aperture you can see the results. When learning a bit more about that combination and how they work it gives more satisfaction when taking photos as well.
