Hidden Gems: Pavia Exploration

Pavia is one of the old capital city in Italy. That city is so close to Milano. When I traveled there I got a ticket from Milano Centrale train station to Pavia train station. It almost took 40-50 min by train and when I arrive at the station, I walked a bit and there was a statue that is Statue of Minerva. From there I walked down and see one of the churches. The church’s name is Basilica di San Teodoro which was nice and people were praying inside when I was visiting there.

Then I walked to the Ponte Coperto Bridge. That bridge was looking so beautiful. The bridge has a different style of architecture and cars are still used there.  There was a statue another side of the bridge. I walked there and the name of the statue is Monumento alla Lavandaia. The area had nice and colorful houses as well.

From the bridge, I walked to another church that was Basilica di San Michele Maggiore. There was also an old church and after checking inside I walked to the streets. The streets were great, and it gives the feeling of history.

After seeing some shops, I walked to the Cathedral of Pavia. It was a huge and nice cathedral. Also, it can be seen everywhere in the city. I sit a bit in the garden of the Cathedral and walked to the other side. There was a big city square name Piazza della Vittoria with hanging out places shops, bars, and cafes. Under the square, there were other shops like supermarkets, etc.

After walking there I came back and visited the Cathedral. It was a huge and nicely designed cathedral. After taking some photos I walked to another Basilica that is Chiesa di Santa Maria del Carmine. It was an old and nice place as well. People were praying that’s why just saw from outside.

Then I walked to the Basilica di San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro- Tomba di Sant’Agostino and when see around I walked to the Castello Visconteo di Pavia castle there was a huge nice building but it was closed at that time. I recognized they were doing some concerts in the garden.

Then I walked down to the University of Pavia buildings. I am so surprised when I see there because it was really so beautiful with different parts, sculptures and yellow walls. There was a library, classes, and sculptures in the uni with a history museum. Also, I recognized there were 3 tall blocks behind the uni that is Torri di Pavia.

Then I walked to the train station back from the lovely old streets between shops and nicely built houses. I got my ticket and went back to the Milano central station again.

If you like historical places that city is definitely worth visiting. Except for that places, you can see some more places in Pavia. Certosa di Pavia was a bit far from the center but there is worth visiting too. Pavia also offers some local cuisine, and local markets.
